Rail is well suited to moving freight in large volumes over long distances. However, it has traditionally struggled to capture market share on key Australian freight routes between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

• Improve and expand available data to inform better decision making on freight projects 
• Choose the right mode for each freight task, to maximise the long-term benefits to freight customers and the community
