ARA Learning
To address significant shortages exacerbated by an ageing workforce and rapid technology advances, the ARA is working with industry, government and education institutions on innovative training programs to grow the talent needed for the future. This includes developing rail-specific university courses and industry-approved training programs such as the ARA's Professional Certificate in Rail.
Work in rail
The rail industry offers employees a unique opportunity to contribute to city-shaping projects that support the economy and communities for years to come. A career in rail puts you at the forefront of innovation and technology and offers the chance to work on projects and rail networks across the world. There are many ways to build a career in rail, whether you have just left school or have years of experience in another industry.
Rail Industry Worker
The ARA’s Rail Industry Worker program is a unified system of managing competencies, health, safety, and fitness for duty. About 100,000 rail workers and contractors participate in the program, ensuring compliance with the Rail Safety National Law. It enables workers to move between projects and across state borders, supporting greater workforce mobility, helping address skill shortages and improving safety outcomes.
