This week, the ARA’s Accessibility Committee met to discuss the progress that each of our passenger operators are making in ensuring our networks are open to everyone. It is inspiring to see how generous and collaborative our railways are in sharing knowledge on specific initiatives underway around Australia to support networks being more accessible.
The group also takes the lead for industry’s input to Government’s first major reform of the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT) in 20 years, and have installed several members in the reform’s reporting working group representing rail in what will be a significant part of our compliance regime into the future.
The ARA’s Revenue Protection Network met this week and shared best practice on technologies being trialled, processes and the law.
Many railways have just completed fare compliance surveys, with mixed results, which has highlighted areas for attention and is guiding organisational activity. This is such an important aspect of our industry as we strive to enhance our services, make upgrades, and ensure our important position within Australia’s net zero future.
