The ARA’s General Manager – Freight and Heavy Haul, Georgia Nicholls, was hosted by Intermodal Terminal Company CEO Mishkel Maharaj and Chief Development Officer Leigh Cook at the site of their $400 million open-access Somerton Intermodal Terminal in Melbourne’s north on Tuesday.

Construction of Somerton Intermodal Terminal is well progressed on what will be the northern hub of the Victorian Port Rail Shuttle Network with 1 million TEUs of capacity in Phase 1 to be complete in 2025. There is huge scope for co-location of warehousing and existing proximity to Coles, Bunnings and Linfox distribution centres. The terminal is another key piece of infrastructure which will help deliver the flexibility, reliability, port connectivity and service cycle time necessary to achieve our collective aspirations for increasing rail freight mode share in both IMEX and interstate markets.
