The ARA has partnered with Libusa Academy to offer their Railway Software Safety as a Client to members.

The course has been customised to meet the Australian rail industrys needs, as well as global software safety standards, to ensure that the introduction of new software and technologies into our railway is as safe as reasonably practical.

The course assists in ensuring compliance with rail safety laws in the procurement, design and implementation of new rail software.

It assists rail organisations procuring safety critical software assets and covers compliance with international standards and Australian rail safety laws.

The course is designed to equip rail organisations with the fundamentals of software safety assurance, focusing on the skills and knowledge necessary for the effective and safe procurement of safety-critical, software-driven assets.

It will cover how to oversee assurance for rail assets in compliance with the international standard EN50128 and Australian safety law.

The self-directed, online course adheres to global IT software safety standards and spans seven modules, covering the following topics:

  • How software failures occur and how to prevent them;
  • Key contents and requirements for ensuring software safety in accordance with international standards and Australian legislation; and
  • Managing software safety throughout project delivery, authorisation, operation, and maintenance.

This on-demand course will be available from Monday 28 October and learners will have 36 weeks to complete it.

The course has had excellent feedback from past participants including:

This course has enabled me to apply the applicable standards whilst providing me with a greater depth of understanding. The subject area is so important in the day-to-day workings of the modern-day railway and I would highly recommend this course to anyone working with or approving new software.”
