The ARA is collaborating with Edith Cowan University and industry members in Western Australia to deliver three new rail engineering units for students, which will begin from July this year.
The new units –Railway System Mechanics, Railway Electrical, Control and Signalling Systems and Rail Design, Construction and Maintenance – will deliver foundational rail knowledge to engineering students who elect to study in mechanical or electrical fields.
The rail design unit will also become a core unit for civil engineering graduates from July this year.
Rio Tinto, Arc Infrastructure, and the Public Transport Authority in WA have been instrumental in supporting the program, with the aim of developing future talent to fill recognised gaps across industry.
Edith Cowan University is developing the course content and will host a webinar in April to raise student awareness of the new units.
