The ARA participated in three workshops to support the development of the National Construction Strategy this week.
The ARA emphasised the need for consistent requirements and standards across projects, including procurement processes, as well as data capture, reporting and sharing.
The ARA also highlighted the value of a national product type approval process and national pre-qual. The ARA agreed that modern methods of construction and materials to support productivity, sustainability and safety needs to be better utilised by procurers and valued in procurement.
The Australian Constructors Association is working with Mott MacDonald to capture views from across the construction industry as part of delivering the Strategy. The workshop focused on the topics of shared requirements and standards; off-site premanufacturing, preassembly and innovation materials; and digitisation and digital technologies.
Specifically, the workshop covered the opportunities, barriers and actions required for wider adoption of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) to deliver transport infrastructure in Australia.
