ARA Chief Operating Officer- Emma Woods and ARA General Manager- Workforce Development Fiona Love met with Jason Westward at MTA today to talk about the Rail Industry Worker program that MTA deliver for the ARA on behalf of the rail industry. With nearly 100,000 rail safety workers across Australia now using RIW to work safely in rail corridors, this is a unique and powerful national competency program that is supporting harmonisation and mutual recognition of competence across the country.

This week MTA in Victoria reported that two national rail signalling roles, supported by an agreed national assessment framework will need to be adopted over the next three years for anyone who holds the designated national signalling roles to be able to work for VLine or MTM. This is the beginning of the next phase of competency harmonization which promises to really boost productivity and safety across all our rail networks.
