The ARA has made a submission on the Federal Government’s Electricity and Energy Sector Plan, which is one of six national sector plans currently in development.

The plan will outline the Federal Government’s strategy to support the energy sector’s transition to net-zero in line with national emissions reduction targets.

The submission highlighted the importance of a clear, national strategy to support electrification and the delivery of renewable energy networks, and recommended the alignment of new charging infrastructure with key transport networks be considered.

The essential role of low carbon liquid fuels such as hydrogen to the future of rail was also highlighted, noting the importance of reliable, affordable supply to provide industry certainty and catalyse further investment in new technologies powered by these fuels.

Importantly, it will be essential that the energy sector plan is aligned to the outcomes of the Transport and Infrastructure Decarbonisation Roadmap currently in development. Consultation on the roadmap is expected to commence soon.
