The ARA attended the NSW Government’s Sustainability in Construction Forum this week, where the NSW Government’s Decarbonising Infrastructure Delivery Policy and Measurement Guidance were launched.

The policy seeks to embed embodied carbon into project development from the business case stage, while the guidance will support the consistent measurement of embodied emissions.

The new measures are expected to be applied to projects led by NSW Government delivery agencies valued at more than $50 million for buildings and $100 million for other infrastructure, and will become operational from April 2025.

Transport for NSW also released its updated decarbonisation roadmap, with work to get underway this year to include the development an engineering cost and carbon library and complete the development of a new Protection of the Environment Policy.

Further industry engagement is planned on these initiatives during the year. You can view the documents released this week here.
