To launch the start of Rail Safety Week, TrackSAFE, Transport for NSW & Trainklink will host a ‘Moment of reflection at the National Rail Monument & Museum’ event at Werris Creek Station, NSW, on Monday 5 August.

The event is open to members of the public and will include a short ceremony with speeches, followed by a morning tea and tours of the rail museum (for a $5 donation).

In its 19th year, Rail Safety Week is an annual community awareness week held in Australia & New Zealand, designed to engage the community in safe rail practices.

This year will see 100+ organisations unite to promote Rail Safety Week reminding the community to act responsibility on and around the rail network.

The ARA encourages organisations to use the TrackSAFE toolkit to promote the importance of rail safety.

Between 2016-2023, there were an average of 83 fatalities per year, or seven per month, including 71 suspected suicides, seven trespassers, five at railway crossings.

This year’s metro campaign is focused on asking people to “pause your tunes” and put your phone down and look out for trains and trams and has been translated in several CALD languages.

The successful regional campaign Expect the Unexpected. Watch out for Trains is being used aging this year.
