Members of GS1 came to Canberra this week to discuss implementing a more targeted approach towards increasing the adoption of Project i-TRACE by organisations in the rail industry.
GS1, together with the ARA, met with representatives of the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, to share information on the efficiency, cost, resourcing and safety benefits experienced by organisations who have implemented Project i-TRACE, and how these benefits could be multiplied as the broader rail industry applies the open and royalty free global identification standards of GS1.
It was proposed that GS1 identification standards should be considered as part of the Tier 2 standards for the national framework being developed by the National Transport Commission.
Project i-TRACE offers numerous benefits to industry, including ensuring a common language and a single source of truth, via a centralised national product catalogue, which removes data errors and duplication between organisations.
It helps all stakeholders effectively identify rail components and assets, electronically capture information about them and share that information with relevant parties – operators, suppliers and maintainers – throughout the lifecycle.
