The ARA has made important updates to the Rail Industry Executive Committee (RIEC) structure and eligibility which will take effect on Friday 1 November 2024.

We are also calling for nominations for the upcoming RIEC elections.

The RIEC, which represents suppliers, manufacturers, and consultants, plays a key role in advising the ARA on rail industry matters, developing work plans, and implementing actions to support the growth of the rail manufacturing and supplier sectors. These changes are intended to enhance engagement and representation across various sizes and interests within the rail supply chain.

RIEC Membership

  • RIEC will consist of 12 senior leaders: seven from the Large Suppliers Reference Group and five from the Small to Medium sized Enterprise (SME) Reference Group.
  • Membership will be determined by a confidential election held every two years, with the first election to be completed by Friday 1 November 2024.
  • Members are elected for a minimum two-year term, and diversity is encouraged in the selection of representatives.
  • The RIEC will meet four times a year.
  • The RIEC Chair will be chosen by RIEC members and will serve as the industry sector director on the ARA Board.

Reference Groups

  • Two reference groups will be established to support RIEC and ensure all supply chain members are represented.
  • Large Suppliers Reference Group: Open to all ARA suppliers who hold ARA membership class 1, A or B. This group will elect seven representatives to the RIEC.
  • SME Reference Group: Open to all ARA suppliers and consultant who hold ARA membership class C, D, E, associates, and academic. This group will elect five representatives to the RIEC (including a maximum of two consultants).
  • These groups will meet approximately twice a year, or on an as needs basis.

Working Groups:

  • The RIEC may establish working groups as needed to execute the Rail Supply Chain Strategy and other key activities. These working groups will be open to representatives from both large and SME suppliers..

The revised RIEC and Reference Group’s Terms of Reference are attached.
