The Federal Government has released its consultation paper for the Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Roadmap and Action Plan this week, with the consultation period open until 26 July 2024.
The ARA will commence the development of a submission in response to the consultation paper, drawing on work completed as part of the rolling stock decarbonisation critical path project. This will include recommendations for specific actions to be considered as part of the roadmap’s action plan, which is expected to be finalised by the end of the year.
The rollingstock decarbonisation critical path, which will inform our submission, has been developed through extensive consultation and engagement with industry stakeholders. The critical path identifies key priority action items for Federal and state governments, as well as industry, to undertake to enable an efficient transition towards net zero in the sector. These include the need for a consistent, national approach to decarbonisation to enable widespread development and uptake of alternative propulsion technologies, as well as the need for collaboration with the energy sector to ensure availability of renewable energy supply and alignment of renewable energy infrastructure with the transport network.
We welcome member feedback to inform our submission throughout the consultation process – if you are planning a submission for your organisation, please contact us to share any details you can.
