The ARA’s Women in Rail Committee has a new governance structure to enable more participation from the ARA’s members.
The new governance structure will consist of a Steering Committee for oversight of the Women in Rail Strategy, supported by four Working Groups for progressing actions, and a Reference Committee for information sharing.
The new structure aims to direct group focus onto the commitments made under the ARA’s Women in Rail Strategy, including progressing industry actions stemming from recommendations in the ARA’s Progressing gender equality in the Australasian rail industry report.
The Women in Rail Steering Committee will be limited in number and reserved for executive and senior level professionals from across the ARA’s membership base. The Steering Committee will be supported by actions from the four working groups, open to all ARA members, and aligned underneath the pillars of the Women in Rail Strategy. The Working Groups will focus broadly on:
- Industry Knowledge – Measuring progress and understanding the issues
- Organisational Impact – Including development of an Industry Code of conduct, identifying and sharing best practice initiatives, and engagement with the Champions of Change Rail Group
- Professional Development – Including training, scholarships, and mentoring
- Promote Rail to Women – improve profiling and networking
Members of the Committee and the Working Groups will also form part of a broader Reference Committee, for generating ideas, sharing information, and networking with likeminded individuals who are passionate about diversity in the rail sector.
For more information, or to join any of the Committees or Working Groups listed above, please contact ARA Policy Manager, Lauren Ascah.
