The ARA recently lodged a submission to the discussion paper for South Australia’s 20-Year State Infrastructure Strategy.

The 20-Year State Infrastructure Strategy is designed to provide expert, independent advice to the South Australian Government on future strategic infrastructure needs. It will support Government to prioritise infrastructure spending, ensuring it is aligned to economic growth, while balancing social and environmental objectives.

The ARA’s submission focussed on highlighting the importance of infrastructure supporting improved rail freight productivity through improved interoperability. The importance of strengthening the resilience of rail infrastructure was noted as a priority, as was the substantial decarbonisation benefits rail has to offer in comparison to other modes. The ARA also noted the importance of procurement reforms and infrastructure pipeline certainty as issues that are critical to more efficient and cost-effective infrastructure delivery.
