ARA directors completed three Brisbane-based site visits prior to the Q2 ARA Board meeting last week; taking a tour of Cross River Rail’s Roma St Station under construction, QR’s recently upgraded Banyo Train Station and a visit with Downer and the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) high fidelity mock-up.

The Board was briefed on key design elements within Cross River Rail’s Roma St Station. This included future proofing that has been built into the station length, as well as the conscious integration with Roma St Station to aid wayfinding when transitioning between the Cross River Rail line and QR network.

Banyo Station is one of six stations QR closed in 2025 as part of their Station Accessibility Upgrade Program. The significant overhaul took the Banyo Station from a historic timber structure to a modern, accessible station that has been welcomed by the local community with considerable patronage uplift.

The final site visit took ARA directors to the 38 metre QTMP mock-up which replicates a train cab and two carriages and has been used to rigorously assess accessibility features and to consult on the driver’s cab.

Each of the visits were a great opportunity for ARA directors to meet with members of the teams leading these important projects in Brisbane.
The ARA thanks each of the ARA member organisations and team members that facilitated these visits.
