The rail industry today congratulated the 95 finalists of the Rail Industry Awards – Australia and New Zealand, recognised for their outstanding contributions.

The winners from across 16 categories will be announced at the 2025 Rail Industry Awards Gala Dinner on Wednesday, 17 September at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Sydney.
Australasian Railway Association (ARA) CEO and judging chair Caroline Wilkie said the awards recognised the incredible achievements of rail industry employees across several areas, including the freight and passenger sectors, infrastructure, safety, diversity, customer service, innovation and sustainability.

“Every year, these awards demonstrate the extraordinary talent within the rail industry in Australia and New Zealand. These finalists exemplify the incredible commitment and dedication of the rail workforce to ensure a thriving, innovative and safe network,” Ms Wilkie said.

“I would like to congratulate every organisation and individual celebrated today for their outstanding skills, and also thank everyone in rail working hard to deliver exceptional services.”
The awards are hosted by the ARA, Rail Track Association Australia (RTAA), Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA), Permanent Way Institution (PWI NSW), Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) and Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board (RISSB).

Rail Track Association Australia President Jonathan Barnes said: “Today everyone in the industry joins together to celebrate the achievements, innovation and successes of those working in the rail industry.”

Railway Technical Society of Australasia Australasian Executive Chair Stratton Killis said: “These finalists are a wonderful example of the incredible innovation and project excellence in the rail industry.”
Permanent Way Institution (PWI NSW) President Mark Harris extended his congratulations to all finalists, stating: “The rail industry takes great pride in recognising these emerging leaders and technical experts who represent the future of our sector.”

A spokesperson for the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers said: “We would like to join in acknowledging the people and organisations who continue to show outstanding leadership, innovation and expertise in our industry.”

Rail Industry Safety and Standards Board General Manager – Stakeholder Engagement, Sharon Tang said: “RISSB is proud to recognise and celebrate all the great innovative thinking in the rail industry and their commitment to the highest standards of safety to keep workers in the industry and our communities safe every day.”
