To support the representation and development of women in the Australian and New Zealand rail workforce, the ARA will be sponsoring six women to participate in tailored professional development courses for female leaders.
The scholarships provide opportunities for women in ARA member organisations who would personally value in attending these programs but would not otherwise have the opportunity.
In 2023-24, the ARA will sponsor:
- Two senior women to participate in the Chief Executive Women Leaders Program; and
- Four women leaders to participate in the Women Rising online course.
Female Senior Leader Scholarship – Chief Executive Women Leaders Program
The CEW Leaders Program is delivered by Chief Executive Women and is valued at $8,000.
It is a seven-day program delivered over seven non-consecutive days in three face-to-face blocks (3 days-2 days-2 days) scheduled six to eight weeks apart. The program is held in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. (Travel and accommodation is not included in the scholarship fee).
Participants will:
- Amplify their strengths and recognise the power of complementary strengths in others
- Develop new competencies and celebrate their own unique style of leadership
- Empower themselves to lead effectively with influence and confidence
- Activate their own leadership development journey
- Act with self-awareness and commit to their own development
- Build strong relationships with activated peer networks

Who should apply:
An Executive-level female working in an ARA member organisation, who has had limited access to professional development and who would greatly benefit from building their leadership capabilities to accelerate their career in the Australian and New Zealand rail industry.
To apply, you must:
- Be available to attend in person at least one of the program’s course dates and locations.
- Accept the programs Terms and Conditions
- Have endorsement from your employer to attend and cover any additional costs outside of the program course fees.
- Complete the application form by 29 September 2023
Outcomes of the selection process will be announced by the end of October.
Female leaders’ scholarship – Women Rising program
Women Rising is a program valued at $1299 and is recommended for managers who can answer yes to any of the following questions:
- Do you long to unlock and fulfill your full potential?
- Are you craving more from your life and career?
- Do you struggle with self-confidence and moments of self-doubt?
- Do you experience imposter syndrome in the workplace?
- Are you lacking clarity on your career goals and life vision?
- Do you take on too much work and have trouble setting boundaries?
- Are you feeling stressed and at risk of burnout?
- Do you constantly feel the need to prove yourself?
- Are you lacking the mentors and sponsors you need to advance?
- Do you aspire to become an authentic leader?
- Do you dream of thriving in both work and life?
The online program is a 1-2 hour a week commitment from March to June 2024.
The program will allow you to:
- Explore your true purpose, what brings meaning to your work and how to craft a vision for your life.
- Learn an evidence-based approach for how to create radical confidence – the type you have no matter what is going on around you.
- Develop a career you love, build supportive and sustaining relationships, and build a personal brand that you are known for.
- Develop as an authentic leader no matter what your role, and learn how to step into your power as a woman with presence and vulnerability.
- Build your influence, develop your executive presence and enhance your impact in all aspects of your work and leadership.
- Discover the joyful, busy-proof and evidence-based ways you can create radiant wellness in your life.
- Delve into the power of cultivating both grit and grace to achieve your goals and support your journey.
- Discover how to lead change in a way that makes a lasting impact.

A mid-level female manager working in an ARA member organisation, who has had limited access to professional development and who would greatly benefit from personal and professional development in building their leadership capabilities.
To apply, you must:
- Be available to participate in the March-June 2024 program
- Satisfy and adhere to Women Rising’s standard admissions policies and procedures.
- Have endorsement from your employer to participate.
- Complete the application form by 29 September 2023
