Passenger rail operators are committed to providing safe and accessible rail services for the community. The industry is continuing to improve accessibility across the network, with a range of infrastructure upgrades and other initiatives underway.
In 2015, ARA members were granted temporary exemptions to the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) (‘DDA’); the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002 (Cth) (‘Transport Standards’); and the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010 (Cth) (‘Premises Standards’).
As part of the temporary exemptions granted by the Australian Human Rights Commission, progress reports must be tabled publicly. While the detail against each temporary exemption is provided in each report, the ARA’s cover letter highlights some key achievements of ARA members each year.
