The ARA’s Accessibility Committee met with a substantive agenda item to get an update from the Commonwealth on the recently initiated reforms to the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport (DSAPT). The standards are being updated because in the 20+ years since they first came into effect, there have been significant changes in public transport technology and usage including the use of rideshare services, electronic ticketing, and greater availability of passenger information delivered online and in real-time. As such, there is a need to modernise the transport standards to meet Australians’ current and future needs. The ARA’s Accessibility Committee will be instrumental in consolidating industry input as the DSAPT reform process unfolds.
