The ARA has successfully negotiated for three new courses focused on the rail industry to be offered at Edith Cowan University in WA as part of our efforts to encourage more engineering graduates into rail.
Fiona Love, ARA General Manager – Workforce Development met with Professor Habibi and his team from the ECU Engineering School, with agreement reached on developing the new undergraduate and post-graduate courses in time for the 2025 intake.
ARA members also partnering with ECU – Public Transport Authority (PTA), Rio Tinto and ARC Infrastructure – also attend the meeting.
The courses will fall into three engineering discipline areas, including Civil, Electrical and Mechanical. ECU have a great approach to education in the Engineering faculty with a strong focus on integration.
There will be three technical teams of industry representatives from Rio Tinto, ARC Infrastructure and PTA who will provide the Engineering School with high-level areas of content to meet the needs of engineers in a contemporary rail engineering role. Everyone involved is very excited to be collaborating to deliver such a great outcome for current and future engineers who will contribute to the rail industry.
