The ARA participated in a panel discussion at the Austroads Resilient Transport Forum last week, highlighting the importance of collaboration given many resilience challenges are shared across the transport network and the infrastructure sector more broadly.
General Manager Sustainability Joeley Pettit took part in the panel at the forum, which was attended by transport sector representatives from Australia and New Zealand.
The forum was opened by NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison, who said transport resilience is about connecting people, particularly during challenging events.
Joeley outlined the ARA’s current work to develop a resilience framework for rail, confirmed the need for continued investment in upgrades and maintenance, and emphasised the importance of maximising the use of sustainable modes such as rail to support a resilient transport network.
The ARA’s Resilience Working Group is leading efforts to develop a resilience framework in rail and met earlier this month to progress planning on the project.
