The ARA’S Interoperability and Signalling Integration working groups have met for the first time this year to discuss the current state of play of key government plans, including the National Rail Reform Plan and state government strategic freight planning.

The Interoperability Working Group’s key objective is to lead consultation with freight sector representatives to identify priority interoperability challenges for action, and opportunities to resolve them, such as network rules, rollingstock approvals and driver competencies.

The Signalling Integration working group is a technical group and its key objective is to advance effective coordination and implementation of modern signalling and communication systems across networks.

The next meeting will include a briefing from the National Transport Commission.
