Infrastructure Australia has published new projections on embodied carbon for Australian infrastructure and buildings over the next five years, identifying a range of strategies to reduce embodied emissions.

Embodied carbon from building activity contributed 10 per cent of national emissions in 2023, with buildings the largest contributor, followed by transport infrastructure.

The report found a 23 per cent reduction in up front carbon could be achieved by 2026-27 can be achieved through like for like decarbonisation strategies driven by collaboration between government and industry.

Further reductions could also be achieved through design or no-build strategies.
