BHP hosted the latest meeting of the ARA’s Heavy Haul Decarbonisation Working Group in Perth on Wednesday this week. The group shared insights on its collective actions towards decarbonisation, reflecting on progress on design and specification for battery-electric locomotives with OEM partners, work to develop an Australian heavy haul charging standard to achieve harmonised charging interfaces across Australian operations, where possible, and various projects testing capabilities of componentry and supporting infrastructure in Pilbara and other remote conditions.
Information from the groups’ discussions will form a key part of the first 12-month implementation plan for the ARA and CORE Innovation Hub’s Rail Collaboration Centre initiative. This will be presented for consideration by the Heavy Haul Executive Committee at their first meeting for 2024 on Tuesday, 12 March, in Perth ahead of the Informa Heavy Haul Conference.
